Monitoring OUR election???
This time I think the Bush Administration has gone too far in trying to be all things to all people. I can see no excuse whatsoever for the United States to ask international monitors to watch over our free elections. This is a move that has tremendous downside and very little upside, save it will placate Al Sharpton, Jesse Jackson, and Sheila Jackson Lee for all of about 10 seconds... What are they thinking? Why in the world would the White House agree to this? Not that there is anything to hide, but there is no control over who these "observers" will be, what their world view is, or how much they may loathe everything about the United States. Are we asking the foxes to guard the henhouse? International observers will have no jurisdiction whatsoever over what they observe, and the only thing I can see coming out of this decision is even more controversy than would already have occurred anyway.
