Conyers' Ethics Violations make him Unfit to head Judiciary
So...let me make sure I understand: This is the man Nancy Pelosi and the House Democrat Caucus want leading the House Judiciary Committee?? I may have slept though a vital piece of the puzzle, but didn't the Democrats just run their entire fall campaign about ending the so-called "culture of corruption"? I mean, Nancy Pelosi herself used that phrase, what, about 100,000 times? And isn't the Dems' first order of business supposedly to "tighten the House ethics rules"?
Anyway, so enough of the voters were misled enough to be fooled by this pap, and they vote the Pelositistas into power--and lo and behold, what do the Democrats do? They put a clearly corrupt Islamist Marxist in charge of the committee that oversees the Judicial system on the behalf of the American People?? The same Judiciary committee that oversees such matters as, oh, the Interrogation of terror suspects and the treatment of Islamist Jihadist prisoners? Am I missing something here? This is not merely yet another in a series of woeful decisions by Ms. Pelosi (do the names Murtha and Hastings ring a bell?), this is suicidal insanity.
I was glad to see I am not alone in this feeling, as Captain Ed is on the same wavelength:
With the new Democratic majority sounding off about cleaning up Congress, one might think they would consider their own proposed leadership first. After trying to push Alcee Hastings and John Murtha into the upper echelons of the House, Nancy Pelosi now has to consider the newly-admonished House Judiciary chair's future. If Pelosi is serious about cleaning up Congress, the Examiner says that John Conyers must go:
The House Ethics Committee released its report on Conyers on New Years Eve, a move apparently timed to slide under everyone's radar. It scolded Conyers for using official staff to work on his re-election campaigns and to perform personal chores for him. The latter is a breach of ethics, but the former is a violation of election law. It's a big problem, especially for the man who would run the House committee on law enforcement.Rep. John Conyers, D-Mich., is scheduled to become chairman of the House Judiciary Committee, but only because he agreed when Pelosi previously made clear that she intended him not to waste time on impeachment proceedings against President Bush. But now we learn that Conyers has his own problems with obeying the law.
There is so much wrong with the Conyers situation that Pelosi shouldn’t have to think twice about nixing Conyers’ chairmanship. ...
Pelosi should withdraw Conyers’ appointment as chairman of the House Judiciary Committee because he is unfit for the position and because the ethics mess simply cannot be cleaned up with such an individual leading the House committee most directly concerned with upholding the majesty of the law.
