Iran Declares War on the UK (and that means us too...)
Gateway Pundit does his usual knock-up job, this time covering the breaking story of the Iranians taking 15 British Naval personnel hostage in Iraqi waters. The soldiers were searching an Indian vessel en route to...where? And I wonder what was on that ship.... Meanwhile oil prices are going through the roof.
This is clearly an act of War. But we are living in a time when--after an American President issued an ultimatum that the US would not tolerate a Nuclear North Korea and the launch of ballistic missiles...the NKs promptly proceeded to do both--launching the missiles on the 4th of July. So how did we respond to this clear crossing of our "line in the sand'? We use the Madeline Albright solution: we pay them off in exchange for empty promises. Not a good model for how to act in the face of military provocation. So just the fact that this is an act of Piracy and War does not necessarily mean that the UK or US will treat it that way.
I have an idea: How about a show of freaking STRENGTH for a change? A blockade, perhaps? Is it too much to ask that the most powerful nation on Planet Earth actually not be terrified of using its Military to ensure rogue states can no longer terrorize the rest of the would at will, openly flaunt maritime law, take hostages and hold them illegally, or manipulate the price of oil as the UN prepares to impose sanctions?
Pat Dollard weighs in.
As does Ace.
And Mario Loyola has a theory over at the Foundation for the Defense of Democracies (cross-posted at NRO): things may not be what they seem--but we definitely are approaching endgame with Iran. Faster, please.
