Steyn: A Desire to Persuade the Unwashed
I'm with Mark Steyn: why not put him on Terry Gross or Charlie Rose or C-Span or some other highbrow show where at least Steyn would have a chance to make his point without 30-second network news sound byte interruptions? Or even Larry King? Winning this war is not just about selling books, it is about hearts and minds.
Steyn's publishers aren't crazy about the idea, because lefty shows don't sell books; but that is hardly the point. The missionaries go where the sinners are. Steyn is one of our best; he is sorely needed on the front lines of the culture wars. Book sales or no book deal. The thing I really appreciate from Steyn's column is that this seems to be his perspective as well.
