UPDATED The "Culture of Corruption" is alive and well in Democrat hands

UPDATE: The indictment is in:

The indictment in federal court in Alexandria, Va., lists 16 alleged violations with prison terms totaling as much as 235 years. Jefferson is charged with racketeering, soliciting bribes, wire fraud, money laundering, obstruction of justice and conspiracy.

[...] Jefferson is accused of soliciting bribes from 11 different companies for himself and his family, and also of bribing a Nigerian official.

The scheme was complicated and Jefferson set up a front company to hide the money, prosecutors said. "But the essence of the charges are really very simple: Mr. Jefferson corruptly traded on his good office and on the Congress," said Chuck Rosenberg, the U.S. attorney for eastern Virginia.

They need to throw away the key.

You will recall Congressman William Jefferson, the Louisiana Democrat who was found with some $90,000 plus in cash in his freezer; you will also recall the Democrats refusal to entertain a censure resolution for Congressman Jefferson. Well it appears that the chickens have finally come home to roost:

A federal grand jury will issue an indictment today against U.S. Rep. William Jefferson, accusing the New Orleans Democrat of multiple counts of bribery in connection with a web of business deals in Africa, a federal official said. . . .

The indictment pulls back the cover on a government investigation that became public when the FBI raided the congressman's Capitol Hill townhouse in August 2005, finding $90,000 stashed in his freezer. Prosecutors say the cash was part of the $100,000 that an informant had handed Jefferson days earlier in a northern Virginia parking garage.

I wonder how many other members of Congress may figure in this investigation.

Glenn poses an excellent question: because when you add in the other known corrupt (but largely ignored by the media) activities of Diane Feinstein, Harry Reid, John Murtha and Nancy Pelosi, you have a virtual "who's who" of high ranking Dem politicians who are knee-deep in the cesspool already. If the elite media were really paying attention, this Congress would already have lapped the previous one in its perfidy.
