The Left's push to Downplay Terror Threat

Lately there have been more frequent and concerted efforts by the Left to convince people in all forms of media (including my comments section) that this whole "9/11 thing" was an anomaly; that we have nothing to fear from Islamist terrorists--unless of course, we continue to fight them in places like Iraq and Afghanistan. Never mind that we were not "fighting them" on any foreign soil on 9/11/01; nor when the USS Cole was bombed; nor when our embassies were bombed by Al Qaeda in Africa; nor the first time the WTC was bombed... and the list goes on. So, to summarize--when some chest thumper tries to sell you on the notion that the only reason we are in danger of a terror attack is because we are in Iraq--just ask that person about 9/11 and all the terror attacks on US interests before we went into Iraq. Because, quite frankly, that dog just won't hunt.

Of course, it isn't difficult to see why the Left is trying to perpetuate this myth; obviously if the American people view the attacks in Scotland and the UK and rightly infer a very real terror threat out there--and that the threat could be coming to a city near them--they are much more likely to put Republicans into office next year. Secondly, if more funds are going into things like Homeland Security and the military, it would be much more difficult for them to enact the plethora of social entitlement programs they long to put into place.

Still, knowing why they do it is no excuse; it seems to me that to blatantly deny the reality going on in Glasgow and London right now; the heightened terror alert in Germany over the last two months; and a Middle East poised to explode at any moment--is to engage in behavior that far too dangerous and reckless to justify such a narrow-minded partisan agenda.

And, as Rick Moran suggests, the concerted effort to whitewash the threat of Islamist terror is both dishonest and foolish:

I don’t know why some on the left insist on believing that they can impress the hell out of the rest of us lowly, scaredy cat peons by sticking out their chest and trumpeting to the skies how unafraid they are of terrorism and how anyone who even glances at a TV to find out what’s going on in London and Scotland is a moronic pants-wetter. All they are doing is making themselves look like idiots.

They laughably presuppose that our interest denotes fear. Why would they do that? Is it that their own carefully crafted, dismissive attitude toward attacks and potential attacks of this sort is actually designed to prove some kind of superiority they may feel toward the rest of us as far as having an excess of courage and wisdom ? How pathetic – I mean, truly pathetic this is. It shows an emotional immaturity and childlike desire to be recognized that in any other context would call for serious mental health intervention. ....

... The fact that there have been three attempted attacks in the last 24 hours doesn’t matter. One might wonder how many attacks or attempted attacks it would take before some of our lefty friends would deem it appropriate and give us permission to glance at the news and find out what the hell is going on without accusing us of being children cowering against the darkness.

Read the whole thing; it's priceless.
