All that is necessary for evil to triumph, is for good men to do nothing.

I have been very disappointed with how Republicans have handled themselves this term, especially their muted reactions to Democrat hypocrisy and scandal. Many believe that the root cause of this lassitude has been the leadership (or lack thereof...) of RNC Chairman Mel Martinez. Besides being at odds with his party's base on the Illegal Immigration issue, Martinez has let a number of golden opportunities to expose the Democrats. Now, according to Don Surber, Martinez may be on his way out. He won't be missed.

Surber documents some of the low hanging fruit that Martinez has let slide--relatively speaking to the Democrats slime machine:

My South Hills bureau chief outlined Mel’s miserable failures to capitalize on Democratic Party scandals, to wit:

Pelosi’s “Tunagate”

Pelosi and her son’s ties to InfoUSA’s Vinod Gupta (who sold specialized telemarketing lists of Alzheimer’s patients, gamblers, cancer patients, and so on)

Harry Reid’s land deals

Diane Feinstein’s conflict of interest in defense appropriations

William Jefferson’s cash in the freezer

Murtha slandering Marines over Hidatha

Kucinich trashing America on a terror-state’s media

Said South Hills, “Any one of these scandals would have stuck with a Republican, and the Republican would have been forced from office after above the fold coverage for a full week.”

Mel, don’t let the door hit you on the behind on the way out.
