On Pakistan and Naming Conventions

Here is a great source of good links for the Pakistan situation. And the author's conclusion could not be clearer:

While U.S. Admiral William J. Fallon has told Pakistan President Musharraf that an emergency rule order would risk U.S. support to his military, the U.S. military support to Pakistan has limited long-term impact without addressing the Islamist public opinion and support in Pakistan for the Taliban and other Islamist organizations. The current situation in Pakistan illustrates the train wreck of pursuing tactical operations in fighting "extremists" without a strategy to clearly define the enemy and to define a U.S. policy on Jihad and Islamism.

Perhaps it is time to finally put the ridiculous notion of a War on "Terror" to bed, and to communicate clearly exactly who (not what) we are fighting, and why. It is easy to say that we are in a "War on Drugs" or "War on Crime" but in reality this tells us nothing about the identities of the suppliers and other criminals who have to be taken off the streets. It's just a slogan. "Terror" is an emotion, one that will always be present somewhere on earth. We might as well be in a "War on Lies".

The enemy we are fighting here have one thing and one thing only in common: a literal interpretation of the Koran to the point of doing violence in order to further the cause of the implemetation of Sharia Law. We are in a Long War against Islamic Jihad, and it is about time we called it by its proper name.
