McCain's Ordeal

For those who do not believe that John McCain is qualified to be Commander in Chief, I would offer the following reprint of the full story of his time in captivity as a Navy pilot, as told to US News and World Report on May 14, 1973--as the Vietnam war still was being waged. Read the whole thing; it is gut-wrenching.

I disagree with McCain on a number of topics, and frankly in the timid way he is approaching this important election. But he has been spot on about the surge and (before that) that we should have committed more troops to Iraq in the first place. So when Obama starts talking about his "war vote" (which Obama didn't even cast, because he wasn't even a Senator yet then...) as being a qualification for him to lead our armed forces in wartime, I think people would do well to read the powerful article linked above about McCain's service, even before his years in the Senate--and contrast that to a rabble-rouser making radical antiwar speeches 6 years ago, as a relatively "unknown" State Senator from Illinois, serving on the Health and Human Services committee of that State...

It is no contest.
