Bomb, Bomb, Bomb, Bomb Bomb Iran....
Joe Lieberman rocks. I wish many Republicans had his kind of courage to state the obvious:
The United States should launch military strikes against Iran if the government in Tehran does not stop supplying anti-American forces in Iraq, Sen. Joe Lieberman said Sunday on Face The Nation.
"I think we've got to be prepared to take aggressive military action against the Iranians to stop them from killing Americans in Iraq," Lieberman told Bob Schieffer. "And to me, that would include a strike into... over the border into Iran, where we have good evidence that they have a base at which they are training these people coming back into Iraq to kill our soldiers."
The Indepedent former Democrat from Connecticut said that he was not calling for an invasion of Iran, but he did say the U.S. should target specific training camps.

Lieberman Fires a Shot across the Bow
Joe Lieberman is obviously not pleased with the direction the Harry Reid Democrats are steering the country these days.
Joe--whenever you are ready--in your heart of hearts there are people who would treat you like the true statesman you really are. I can understand loyalty, and it is admirable. In fact it is precisely why you belong with us. Face it: your old friends have deserted you--they deserted you during the election and now they are deserting both you and the future of the United States...and Israel. They want you for one reason and one reason only--because losing your vote would deny them power. The very power that is catastrophically hindering our war effort. On the other hand, if you caucus with the Republicans, you would be much more than a vote. Your input would actually be listened to again. And heard. What is that worth?

Joe Lieberman, Statesman
If, as rumored, the Democrats soon lose Joseph Lieberman to the Republicans because of the Dems' scorched-earth policy against their own country during a shooting war, there will no longer be a "Scoop Jackson/Sam Nunn/Zell Miller" Democrat left. This may be a good short term win for Republicans, but in the long term the Democrats' turn to the hard left endangers the entire country--and world.
Lieberman's words today in the Wall Street Journal were statesmanlike, even-handed, and sensible. The tragedy is that no one else in his old party recognizes this fact. If you have not already seen it, do not hesitate read the whole thing.

Lieberman threatens Party switch over War
Our pool is pure, cleansing and soothing, Joe. And we think just like you do. Come on in, the water's fine!
(ps - suggestion to Senate Republican Leadership: it would not be in appropriate to arrange for a very plum position to be offered to Lieberman should he jump--on the Armed Services and/or Intelligence Committees--and if it takes a chairmanship offer, it is well worth it....)
UPDATE: The coward Hagel is talking about jumping parties also. (if so: good riddance!) But Lieberman would still be a real catch. I'd trade Joe for Chuck straight up any day of the week. Rick Moran comments on both.

Lieberman Stands Tall
On a day when the "people's" House voted to betray America, Joe Lieberman weighed in with strong and stirring words. If this isn't an example of true statesmanship, then what is?
Whoever wins the Republican nomination could do worse than to consider putting Joe on the ticket. The War trumps all other considerations, and there are few who more staunchly support our war against the Jihadists more than Lieberman. To me, this man is an American hero.

HUGE: Is Lieberman about to put on a Red Jersey?
The New Yorker is no conservative rag. And its recent article on Joe Lieberman is--to say the least--eye opening.
It appears to come down to this: if the Dems show signs of defunding the War, Lieberman may jump. Don't believe me? Just see Lieberman's own words as quoted in the New Yorker article (h/t to Captain Ed):

Even McCain, who supports the President’s new plan, is openly frustrated with the Administration’s prosecution of the war, and has been especially critical of Vice-President Dick Cheney; Lieberman won’t criticize anyone involved but the comprehensively discredited former Defense Secretary Donald Rumsfeld.
Iraq is the reason that Lieberman calls himself an “independent Democrat.” Democratic voters in Connecticut abandoned him in last year’s primary, favoring the antiwar candidate Ned Lamont. Lieberman ran as an independent, and beat the ineffectual Lamont in the general election in large part because Republicans voted for him. In the campaign, Lieberman said that he would join the Democratic caucus if elected, and his victory was the deciding one that gave the Democrats control of the Senate. But he told me recently that his attachment to the Party is based in some measure on sentiment, and should not necessarily be thought of as eternal.
“A lot of Democrats are essentially pacifists and somewhat isolationist,” he told me. He had particular problems with Senator Edward Kennedy’s proposal to deny the President funding for a troop surge, and with an idea recently raised by the senior senator from Connecticut, Christopher Dodd, to cap the number of American soldiers in Iraq. Lieberman was not willing to say whether he would remain a Democrat if the Party cut off funding for the war. “That would be stunning to me,” he said. “And very hurtful. And I’d be deeply affected by it. Let’s put it that way.”
