Game On in Waziristan
Well, like it or not, the Islamists war against Pakistan's leadership is now in the open.
Since Musharraf's War against the Taliban and Al Qaeda would also mean taking off the gloves with the Islamist-held region of Western Pakistan (and vice-versa), then perhaps US and NATO forces in Afghanistan will now be given the Green Light to enter this theater as well. If there is a silver lining here, that would be it.

Is Musharraf moving against the Pakistani Tribal Areas?
It looks as if the Red Mosque was only the beginning of President Musharraf's moves against Al Qaeda and the Taliban in Pakistan. Let us hope this information does signal a new urgency to wipe out the Islamists. If so... it's about time!

Pakistan Clamps Down: Takes Red Mosque from Islamist Militants
Musharraf ends the standoff at the Red Mosque. Good. Let us hope his security forces can protect him, and that we see a lot more of the same in the coming weeks and months.

Musharraf at the Crossroads
As I have been writing about the last week or so, things are getting really, really dicey in Pakistan. Musharraf has a choice to make--an almost Biblical choice between good and evil: one hopes that the Bush Administration is making Musharraf an offer he can't refuse.

Pakistan falling back into old habits...
Even though a senior level AQ leader was arrested earlier in the week, it appears Pakistan is back to its sandbagging ways again.
Whatever Cheney threatened when he dropped in on Musharraf, he needs to demonstrate to the Pakistanis that we mean it (but don't hold your breath...).

Bringing the Big Guns to bear on Pakistan
The sudden visit of Vice President Cheney to Pakistan--coming approximately one week after Defense Secretary Robert Gates made his own suprise visit--ought to be raising red flags everywhere that this relationship is in big trouble.
