Another Big Win at the Supreme Court -- and Thomas Shines
Mona Charen comments on an earth-shaking Supreme Court decision, in what is turning out to be quite a good week for the Court:
In a 5-4 decision, the Supreme Court ruled that achieving "diversity" is too weak an argument to justify shuffling kids around on the basis of skin color. Though Chief Justice John Roberts's opinion is couched in language of precedent and respect for existing law, this case is a clean win for individualists -- i.e., for those who oppose racial preferences or racial handicaps. Things might have gone very differently if Justice Sandra Day (prepare for 25 more years of affirmative action) O'Connor were still on the court.Justice Breyer wrote the dissent and was joined by Justices Souter, Ginsberg and Stevens. Roberts answered the dissent in the majority opinion (a rare thing in Supreme Court opinions) and basically demolished Breyer's arguments. But Justice Thomas's separate concurrence was a tour de force.

Obama's Lame Imus Response
Tom McGuire (via Glenn Reynolds) asks a very relevant question:
Since we are all responsible, none of us are. If, I say *IF* Sen. Obama wants to lead on this issue, he could start by pointing a finger at some real targets. Some hard targets; waiting five days and then denouncing Imus does not merit a Profile in Courage.
Just to help him get started, I wonder whether his new friend David Geffen has any clout in the record industry; I further wonder whether Sen. Obama wants to exhort him to help clean up Hollywood.

PC Racism: Sharpton and his Mistress CBS/Viacom
Big Dog catches Al Sharpton performing a proctology exam on CBS. Or at least that is what it looks like Sharpton is doing...
It is very telling that CBS (which fired Imus yesterday) and Viacom (which owns Comedy Central) have the SAME Chairman/CEO. Why is this relevant? Because you see more racial insults per capita on Comedy Central than almost any other broadcast network out there (exception: Al Sharpton himself; why is HIS show still allowed to air?). And hey, I even watch Comedy Central sometimes. Even Southpark. I am not saying it should be censored; I am saying the pathetic, bigoted Imus should not have been. We are smart enough to tell who is racist and who is not. Imus? Check. Sharpton? Check. Jesse Jackson? Check. So why can Imus and not the other two? You and I both know that answer.

And, while it is hard for me to comment too much on African-American culture in general--because I am not black and have not walked that walk--here is one African-America of integrity that does have something to say about it. So I will let him do the talking.
Ultimately I believe this is going to be used as a stepping-stone towards censorship of center-right talk radio. That is why we must continue to dwell on this hypocrisy. Is Imus a racist? I don't know, he certainly appears to be; but there are many more racists out there on the airwaves. What we are talking about here is "PC Racism". And that dog just won't hunt.

In the end, preferential treatment trumps Imus in battle for Airwaves
Yes, what Don Imus said was definitely racist. The problem is: Imus has been making these kinds of pronouncements for years. So why fire him now? Well, obviously some races are more "worthy" of protection than others. Sharpton and Jackson's anti-Semitism weren't worthy--but this episode isn't about "Hymietown".
I am not condoning what Imus said. But I am pointing out there is a double standard at play. Imus has been sliming people, races, and religions for years. Perhaps it is just the thin skin of certain African-American paid extortion artists--but I doubt it. And I won't even get into to the rappers and what they do: on networks like CBS, Comedy Central, HBO, etc... No, one gets the feeling that this isn't really about "decorum". This is something else...
My guess is they will use this to try and promote regulation of what can and cannot be said on the airwaves. First Amendment? What's that? And it is only a small step from there to "equal time". There is a reason why they are raising such a stink about this. Imus is just a pawn in the way.

Race Baiters claim "offense" at Rove Rap
Good grief; has no one any shame anymore?
I'm sorry, but has anyone out there ever seen Dave Chappelle's (hilarious...) imitation of "white dudes"? Perhaps it is just me, but I wasn't offended by this obvious and blatant racial "slur" against Anglo-Saxon Americans; actually I thought it was genius...
But even if I or somebody else had been offended--so what?? Since when does the Constitution protect us from being offended? If that were the case, no one in Congress, the White House, or the Supreme Court would have jobs. In fact neither would that Politico reporter.
I would just like someone to clue me in as to why the hell is it a "news story" that some member of a "protected class" of victims got offended by Rove?
